The Honey Bloom Haven Story
I, Elizabeth, grew up as a farm kid on a dairy farm in Northwest Wisconsin. My childhood is full of memories of working alongside my family. I particularly cherish the memories of living next door to my grandparents and feeding calves or riding a tractor with my grandpa and stopping by the farmhouse to ask my grandma for a cold cup of Lipton ice tea. Those memories are cherished even more now that both grandparents have passed away. A few other favorite memories include singing at the top of my lungs next to my Dad on the tractor, picking out my favorite long john donut with chocolate frosting and sprinkles after a grocery store delivery of sweet corn, and endless hours of playing with my siblings ouside or in the haymow.
At some point in my journey, I forgot the importance of enjoying each moment like I did in my childhood, and I focused on efficiency, perfection & performance. I burned myself out and found myself physically ill. During a particuarly low spot of that journey, one of the most comforting places for me was the middle of a small patch of zinnias. There I cried, prayed, sang, processed, and soaked in the beauty. From that point on, I started experiementing with flower seeds. I struggled with getting them to germinate and assumed that I just didn't have a green thumb. I said as much to a friend and he offered me a spot in his greenhouse and explained to me the conditions that a seed needs to germinate.
My seeds germinated! I could grow flowers! The rest is history. I was hooked. The process of nurturing flowers so closely echoes my life, and so many analogies in the Bible, that I am continually making connections for personal growth. The gardens became my place for healing, then a place to foster conversation with my kids, then a safe space for foster kids to bond and open up, & then a dream to share the beauty with others after encouragement from a neighbor.
In September of 2023, Honey Bloom Haven was born to connect with you! We hope to help you remember, or learn, how to intentionally foster the beauty of each moment with our flowers. Life is worth savoring!
Blessings,
Elizabeth
